SFDG Participated in Venice Biennale 2010: Celebrating Tradition Through Contemporary Design

As part of the 12th International Architecture Exhibition at the Venice Biennale 2010, SFDG participated in the Malaysian showcase with the theme Contemporary Architecture + Tradition Re/Mixed. Collaborating with Ar. Lee Chor Wah, Ar. Shee Siew Hoon, and Chaw Chee Yoong, the team reinterpreted cultural identity through architecture, presenting a modernist bungalow façade abstracted from the traditional Chinese clan plaque of the ‘Zhang’ family. The work explored how contemporary forms can embody heritage values in multigenerational homes. Following its Venice debut, the project was exhibited at the National Museum of Malaysia and Meiji University, reflecting SFDG’s long-standing design-led approach.
